Denver Broncos sign FB/RB Jacob Hester

Hester (5’ 11’’, 235lbs) career stats: 62 games (23 starts) over 4 years with San Diego Chargers. 91 rushing attempts for 319 yards (3,4 yards average), 1 rushing TD, 55 catches for 308 yards, 3 TDs and 4 fumbles (2 lost).

He was drafted out of LSU in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft by San Diego.

The Broncos filled the open spot on the 53 men roster by signing tweener FB/RB Jacob Hester.

During the first interview as a Bronco, he said that he will help on special teams and see what happens at FB.

So why this signing by Denver, although widely expected after Hester work out last week?

Why didn’t the Broncos signed up Jeremiah Johnson from the practice squad instead of a player that doesn’t know schemes and was out of football since not making the Chargers roster this past summer?

Why another FB when Gronkowski is playing strictly on special teams? What is Hester adding to the roster that was missing? He clearly is not a McGahee/Moreno type of player.

I don’t quite understand this move, but I’m sure that I will be pleasantly surprised as I am with the most of the moves Denver FO did in the past two years.

Is Lance Ball job on the line? Virgil Green one?
